For centuries, plants have been at the heart of healing traditions around the world. As more people bringing Plant Wisdom back into their kitchens, one of my favorite roots ginger has been named the medical plant of the year 2026.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is well known for its long history in traditional medicine, and modern science is increasingly confirming its health benefits. Its underground stem is valued for its warming, healing, and anti-inflammatory properties. Research shows that compounds like gingerols and shogaols provide anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and pain-relieving effects, supporting its use for colds, joint pain, and overall vitality.
In this blog post, I share how I make ginger tea. It has become a small ritual in our yoga group in Caldas da Rainha, and we love enjoying a cup together after practice.

This week, we integrate the spirit of ginger into our yoga practice, spicy asanas, nourishing breath, and a body that feels yummy and vibrant.
Stay healthy and take care.
See you soon on the yoga mat,
Andrea Stern
